Each week, we have about five clients visiting us for their brow service who are specifically interested in an “ombre” brow. Typically, when clients request this service, they are actually looking for a natural eyebrow look that is darker in the tail area, softer in the front, and has a gentle transition across the length of the brow. This gradual transition from darker to lighter is what is considered an “ombre.”
The variation of dense pigment in the tail of the brow to soft pigment in the front promotes a natural look; it is how full eyebrows would naturally appear. A skilled permanent makeup artist will ensure this result whether you specifically ask for “ombre brow” or not. No one wants an eyebrow that is one solid shade along the entire length of the brow; that would look very harsh and unnatural.
“Ombre brow” is not a specific tattoo technique or permanent makeup technique. It is the result of a tattooing method commonly referred to as powderbrow. Powderbrow is a technique where pigment is implanted into the upper dermal layer of the skin. Your artist will use an appropriate needle configuration, machine speed, and pigment mixture to create a soft layering of pigment in the brow area. When viewed up close, it almost appears as layers of pixels. By creating denser pigmentation in the tail of the brow and gradually reducing the pixelation towards the front, an ombre appearance is achieved.
A skilled permanent makeup artist will be able to give you an ombre effect on your brow whether they advertise “ombre” as a service or not. Rather than searching for “ombre artists near me,” we suggest broadening your search criteria to “permanent makeup artists near me.” Discover some permanent makeup artists and evaluate the quality of their work based on HEALED results (healed results are the real results). You will likely find that a skilled artist’s work naturally exhibits an ombre effect because it is a more natural result.
Finally, don’t limit yourself to a permanent makeup artist in your immediate neighborhood. Microblading, powderbrow, "ombre brow," nanobrow, and tattooed eyebrows all have one thing in common: they are permanent (NOT semipermanent). The results may fade, but they will be with you for life or until you have them lasered off at a medical facility. Great results are worth traveling and waiting for. We always suggest finding a permanent makeup establishment that has a history of success, posts healed results, specializes in the craft, and can provide examples similar to your skin tone, type, and maturity.
